I knew I forgot to take a pic. I am offshore right now. Maybe my wife can get it.
Done!

It amazes me how much more beat up and crusty these south American and Cuban kits are than any other kits, turk g1 included...guess it's the jungle and salt ... no wonder kits are more scarce it seems.
Cool build!

Just idle curiosity here, but did a number of Chileans have these Austrian/German hand guards?
Days ago I received my very first Austrian hg and Really like the military look.

IDK. Mine came with them. Thought of putting new wood on it at one time.

If the extremely remote possibility of an EMP were to happen (.00000001 chance), I would keep this Chilean rifle very handy for a while. That's what I meant by all-business.
Or handy immed. after a hurricane or earthquake.
Besides the standard barrel length, the ribbed metal hand guards give out the signal: "Instant Death is available- your next decision could be your last".

My understanding is the original Cuban/Chilean rifles had wood handguards which were then replaced by plastic handguards after the wood ones were inevitably damaged after years of use. My Cuban kit came with a pair of heavily used plastic FN brown handguards. I'm not aware of the metal handguards being used in any of the conflicts these were used in but if I'm wrong it would not be for the first time.

Same here, but that is what the kit came with. Sarco replacement?

That would be my guess. Or somebody else added it. Did you purchase the actual kit from Sarco or obtain from somebody else? I wish I was into FALs back during the golden age of cheap kits.

Sarco. It was what came with the kit.

I bought 6 of those kits and kept the best parts for my build. I ended up with a serviceable set of FN made wood hand guards. My barrel is real nice, but some were pretty rough. I had one that had the lug on it, but had to return it because the rifling was almost gone. One kit came with no Handguards and SARCO sent me a pristine set of South African non bipod cut
Any way my Chilean build came out nice. Shoots great. I found a beat up set of FN Handguards to run on it so I don’t beat up the wood ones. Enjoy your new rifle!!!
